Success!

I just want to thank everyone who has donated to my campaign for the LLS. This weekend I reached my minimum of $1800 and any more donations go 100% to LLS! It is such a huge relief and now I can focus fully on my training. Your contributions will go towards something great and I hope you feel good about donating to a fantastic cause. If you are still thinking about donating you can help my running buddy Lindsay. She is close to her goal and I would love for her to rest easy as well. THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU!

On another note, my training is going awesome! I had a wonderful run this past weekend. I was in California visiting my Grandma and the change of scenery made for a enjoyable run. There is nothing like California weather. I was very proud of myself because on the last mile and a half my iPod died on me (thank you Joy.) At first I was going to let myself stop and walk because I didn't want to run without my music. But I didn't, I just kept going and finished. I let my mind and determination push me forward. I know it may sound silly but that was a big accomplishment. I am learning more and more that this training is more about will power than body power. If you get your head to understand that you can and will do it your body follows suit. Pretty cool . . . Thanks for the support!

5 Miles baby!

Tyne and I busted out 5 miles like pros on Saturday...
I can not believe that our 1/2 marathon is coming up so fast, it seems like yesterday when we signed up to do this. Time sure does fly!

This weekend we got our re-commitment papers. The info packet to find out when and what happens to all of our donations. What race day an then night before will be like and to overall just recommit to this event. Of course it is a but intimidating knowing you HAVE to raise a certain amount of money or it comes out of your pocket... but I feel confident I can make it happen!

The countdown begins... our runs are getting longer and the time from now until the race is shorter!
Thanks for supporting us!

Saturday Training

Gotta love Texas weather. We had our team run today and when I got out of my car this morning at 6:30am the thermometer on my car read 31 degrees. Holy moly it was cold. Before we went on a run we had a fuel clinic. It was about all those gel packs runners eat during their runs to refuel. It was pretty interesting and we got to taste all the different flavors. Some were definitely better than others. I got to take my fave flavor home, which Hector then promptly pooped because I think he thought it was a toy??? I don't know maybe I am working with two toddlers . . .

Lindsay and I ran our 3 miles like pros. We are definitely stronger and we chatted through our whole run which is a good sign. The first mile was cold but after that your body is so warm you don't feel the cold anymore, you just get a runny nose. I think we are going to push ourselves next week by running four miles. It will also help to change the course up a bit. Our TnT coach Laurie was back for this run, it was great to get to know her a little better and get a little guidance.

Thanks for "keeping up" with us I know we run fast ;)

And I was Runnnnnning!

I have to say Running is becoming more and more fun, but I do not think I will EVER like running in the cold rainy weather.
Today I headed out for a 2 mile run and got to enjoy the wonderful CRAZY Texas winter weather. 39 degrees with a light breeze and misty rain YUK!
I cant wait to get to the point to where 2 miles is like a piece of cake and my time is less then 10 minutes a mile, but I am for sure getting stronger and that is GREAT!
I do not have much to report this week.... just getting back into the groove after a sick week!

Runing, Running and Running

This past week has been great. I am definitely getting stronger. The runs are getting easier and they are now part of my routine. It helps me clear my head. I have yet to experience the mysterious runners high that people talk about, hopefully as I continue to run I will better understand. I am keeping myself on the beginner’s schedule for right now which means we run four times a week: two 2 mile runs and two 3 mile runs. I am thinking I may try and push myself a bit and go for the Intermediate training schedule over the next couple of weeks. I think I am ready and if nothing else, I drop back down to the beginner, no harm in trying right? I might as well challenge myself if I am willing. It's more just a matter of finding the time. I think I am going to have to start getting up in the mornings and running anyway, blah!

So this past Saturday morning was pretty funny. Every Saturday we have a team run at 6:30am. This Saturday’s weather was particularly nasty. Thunderstorms, lightning and cold rain, doesn't that make you want to run? Yeah, back indoors :) I still had to drag my warm body out to training to deliver my fundraising letters (they mail your first 100 for free, if only I had 100 friends, anyway.) So I delivered Lindsay and my letters and on my way home I heard a loud bang on my car. Oh man, I didn't know what happened, I saw steam which I mistook for smoke coming out from under my car. So, of course I jump to the conclusion that my car is on fire. Nope just steam. Luckily, while I was staring at my hood from inside my car wondering if I should get out or not I noticed that there were big, no huge, balls of ice falling from the sky. It was a hail storm. I'm sure most of you have heard that everything is bigger in Texas, well so is the hail. I sped home as fast as I could, while trying to shield my eyes. I thought my windshield was going to break. Long story short, I made it home intact with some lovely dents in my car. Needless to say I didn't run on Saturday, but I got my hiney up nice and early Sunday morning to do the run. I have made a commitment to you all and you can count on me to follow this through. My job for the next 12 weeks is to run, and that's what I'm doing . . . like it or not :)

Thanks for believing!

Welcome!

Thank you for visiting our website. If you have made it here that probably means you have donated to either of Lindsay's or my campaign. So a big THANK YOU to you! I hope this site gives you all a more personal look into our half marathon training as we fight to cure blood cancers.

To give you a quick update I have been running my hiney off. We had a Team in Training kick off on the 1st where we met our coach, mentor and heroes. They gave us our training schedules and fundraising goals and sent us on our way. So far the fundraising has been going great, I have no doubt that I will meet my goal by May. Thank you to all who have contributed, you have no idea how much it means to me. No donation is too small and you all have given generously, thank you.

The running part is going. Man, when I got this crazy idea back in December, thank you Heather Corey, I forgot that I really don't enjoy running. Luckily, for me that is changing a bit. Well more that I am enjoying seeing now how my body is up for the task. I am the fittest and strongest I have ever been and it's nice to see my body work for me. Though still the running kinda stinks, but I do it for all those who don't have the choice to quit. While I am running and my legs hurt I think of the people who have donated to my campaign. Who believe in me and know that I can accomplish this goal and I run for them as well.

We had our first team run this past Saturday and Lindsay and I kicked butt!!!! We ran all 3 miles, both of us were nervous about the distance. We kept each other going and I think surprised ourselves by our ability. It's great to have a running partner and I have found a wonderful one!

Joy got to go on her first run with me today. I have been doing most of my running on the treadmill while she naps. It was a beautiful day so I decided to take her out in the jogging stroller. (Hector got it all gussied up for me this weekend) Whoever invented the Jogging Stroller should be tortured. My goodness, it's so hard!!! The idea that this equipment is perfectly suited to allow you to run with your child is a load of rubbish. I only had to run 2 miles today and they were truly the hardest 2 miles of all the training I have done thus far. I may go back to the Jogger eventually, but not if I can help it. It's a great stroller but seriously it should have in small print not intended for actual running, much too difficult. My legs are certainly feeling the run today and Hector says "well at least I still have energy to complain about it." What a sweet guy . . .

Anyway, thank you for entering our training blog. Lindsay and I plan to post pictures of us at events and keep you informed of our progress. I sure there will be some amusing stories along the way. Thank you for taking this journey with us!

With love, Tyne
